Hey guys, today I have an interesting video to show you, it’s a series of speed tests done that test the speed of real life things against the loading time of Google Chrome.

I am going to show you both the actual video that contains the demonstrations and also show you the behind-the-scenes. So I will show you the video’s and then talk about them afterwards.

Actual Video:

In this video there is 3 tests all recorded at multiple angles with super high speed camera’s (recording at 2700 frames per second). The three tests that were done are: Chrome VS Potato, Chrome VS Sound Waves and Chrome VS Lightning.

Behind-the-Scenes:

This video gives you a look at how the Google team went about doing these tests and has some people talk about what went into the making of the video and what problems they faced.

Computer: MacBook Pro laptop with Windows installed

Monitor – 24″ Asus: We had to replace the standard fluorescent backlight with very large tungsten fixtures to funnel in more light to capture the screen. In addition, we flipped the monitor 180 degrees to eliminate a shadow from the driver board and set the system preferences on the computer to rotate 180 degrees. No special software was used in this process.

Camera: Phantom v640 High Speed Camera at 1920 x 1080, films up to 2700 fps

15Mbps internet connection/li>

My Thoughts:

Once I saw this video, I instantly thought “Sorry Firefox, you’ve served me well but I’m afraid this is it for you.” and I instantly downloaded and installed Chrome and after never trying it out before, I love it.

While this video is extremely cool, there are some things that make it a bit hard for someone to achieve the same results. For example, they have a 15 Mbps Internet connection which is about 3 times the speed of an average broadband connection making it extremely hard for the average user to get speeds anywhere near these results.

They also only loaded up websites that did not contain many Kb’s of data and they had also opened that page before in order to get the cache to load instead of loading each thing individually for the first time.

However, I did try Chrome and found it to be faster than firefox, but not by much. Most of what I love about it is the minimalistic design to it, there isn’t a bunch of crap blocking what is most important.

When I watched this I thought: Hey, we’re not doing that bad with the planet, we can still turn this ship around and stop ourselves from wiping ourselves off the face of the earth. It’s just going to take a little time and energy.

P.S: Sorry I havn’t been posting much. I’ve been swamped with work, I worked 7 days in a row and only got one day break. So I’ve just got to re-think the way I manage time and activities these days. So I’m hoping to get into a rythm of posting.
